Field information

The study site is located in the Institute of Nature Education’s Otanomousu-daira subalpine conifer forest in Shiga highland at Shinshu University, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The ground is covered by snow each year from November to the following May. This site is one of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s “Monitaring Sites 1000”.Otanomousutaira is a cool-temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest. The dominant species are Abies mariesii, Tsuga diversifolia, and Japanese arborvitae with forest floor consist of Sasa kurilensis.
